A Fleece Blanket – The Perfect Winter Warmth

Fleece is a soft material often with deep pile. The original term refers to the coat of a sheep. The material was initially made from the coat of the sheep. A fleece blanket would have traditionally been made from the coat of a sheep or a goat that was long haired. Today the term “fleece blanket” is used to describe any soft blanket whether it is made from the coat of a sheep or synthetically constructed.

Natural Fleece Blanket

A natural fleece blanket that is made from sheep hair is very expensive but very luxurious and warm, the sheep are sheared when their coats reach a certain point and the coat of the sheep is used to loom material. The sheep are not harmed by the process. Once the sheep’s coat has been loomed into material it is used to make many products including apparel and blankets.  A natural fleece blanket usually has some type of backing on it, to help it hold its shape. A natural fleece blanket is much more difficult to care for than a synthetic fleece blanket in most cases it has to be professionally cleaned, which can be expensive over time.

Synthetic Fleece Blanket

There are a lot of synthetic options for a fleece blanket. There are cotton blends, polyester blends and one hundred percent cotton options. The cotton blends are usually a combination of cotton and polyester; this is a favored option because it holds its shape and does not shrink. A synthetic fleece blanket can simply be put in the washing machine to be cleaned. A natural fleece blanket has a much longer life span than its synthetic counterparts.

Price of a Fleece Blanket

A natural fleece blanket will be much more expensive than a synthetic fleece blanket. A small synthetic fleece blanket can cost as little as ten dollars, while even a small natural fleece blanket will cost well over thirty dollars. Finding a natural fleece blanket will also take a little more work than finding a synthetic fleece blanket to purchase. A synthetic fleece blanket to fit a King/Queen bed will run around sixty dollars and up. A natural fleece blanket to fit a King/Queen bed will run around one hundred and fifty dollars and up.

A fleece blanket is a warm and cuddly way to stay warm during the coldest winter nights. A synthetic fleece blanket can be purchased for a reasonable price, and the money spent to buy a natural fleece blanket will be rewarded with years of warmth.
